A Whole Lot Of Learning At the CINNUG Web Development FireStarter

This past Saturday, the Cincinnati .NET Users Group (CINNUG) hosted another FireStarter, this one on Web Development.  Never been to a FireStarter?  The FireStarter concept is designed to light a fire under developers who are beginners or novices at a certain technology.  This one, hosted at the Cincinnati Microsoft office, focused on Web Development. We started the day with the “Battle of the 5s” – Silverlight 5 (by Bill Steele) and HTML 5 (by Brian Carter) gave really good perspectives on certainly the most discussed topic of the day (in light of the Windows 8 announcements).

Over lunch we held a panel discussion, where all of the speakers fielded questions from the audience on different Web Development technologies, although a lot of the discussion again focused on the future of web development (from a Microsoft Technology perspective).  It was very lively at times, and a lot of good information was exchanged by not only the panelists, but also the attendees.

After lunch (provided by CINNUG through it’s annual sponsors), we got right back into tech with Leon Gersing giving a great presentation on JQuery/JQueryUI. The next talk by Mike Wood brought the cloud to us, giving an awesome primer on moving to Azure.  Finally, I gave a talk on moving to ASP.NET MVC3, including how to jazz it up with the free Telerik MVC Extensions.

All in all, a lot of great knowledge was shared, and we want to thank our annual sponsors (for the full list see the CINNUG web site), the speakers who gave their time on a Saturday to share, and the attendees, who gave up their Saturday to come to a tech event, who made this event possible.

The content will be posted under the Events section on the CINNUG website later this week.

Happy Coding!
